The Pony Club
The Pony Club is ‘the’ starting point for any young person who wants to learn to ride and care for horses. Membership is open to anyone up to the age of 25; from total novices to those with a little more experience.
The Pony Club Centre Membership scheme means you don’t have to have your own pony to join, but if you do have a pony there are Pony Club Branches ready to welcome you. Membership offers a huge range of benefits, including training in how to ride and care for a pony correctly; reinforced by members taking tests and earning achievement badges.
The Olympic events of dressage, show jumping and eventing are included on The Pony Club’s vast discipline list as well as polo, polocrosse, tetrathlon, mounted games, endurance and pony racing. There are plenty of opportunities for riders of all levels to take part in team and individual competitions, and the emphasis is always on achieving whilst having fun!
As well as having plenty of fun, The Pony Club provides the ideal opportunity for members to make new friends and learn essential skills such as sportsmanship and teamwork. Most Pony Clubs also hold annual camps where lots of laughs are guaranteed, and midnight feasts and water fights are high on the activity list!
There are over 300 Pony Club branches in the UK run by an army of dedicated volunteers. For many it is a family affair, in which generations are involved and lifetime friendships are forged. The Pony Club centre scheme was introduced more recently in 1998, and there are now over 500 across the UK. Centres are typically Riding Schools or Equestrian Centres who apply to become linked to The Pony Club and, through this link, can offer Pony Club activities and training to their clients
There is something for everyone in The Pony Club; from lessons on the basics of riding and pony care for grassroots riders, to schemes developed for teenagers who are looking for informal social and training opportunities and a programme designed specifically to support those who are working towards the talent pathways of the Olympic disciplines. Sign up today and let the fun begin!
